Mixing koi fish in with my other fish?
I have a 75 gallon tank
I have a striped raphael catfish, dinosaur birchir, albino cory cat, chinese golden algea eater, 2 albino rainbow sharks, pleco, albino pleco, and 2 java loaches
I wanted to add 2 koi and sell them when they get bigger
I know there cold water fish
And the ammonia secresions
Lots of waste
Tear up plants ect ect…so no need to explain
And yes I know they can exceed 3 feet which is y I’m planning on selling them when there bigger
I just want to know if my other fish would be harmed
All of my fish are bottom feeders except the dinosaur
And koi are mid level fish so they should be ok but I just wanted some extra opponions
I also have 2 big gold fish in a 35 gallon so I know they shouldn’t mix but I want to get them big and sell them for more money as a way of getting a little extra cash now and then
I figure it wouldn’t harm them even tho there cold water fish
Because when they get sick u have to raise the temp so I figured they’d be fine
I also use to have my goldfish in with the rest of my fish with a heater and they didperfect they actually thrived in it
They became very friendly and I could pet them and they would suck my fingers and when I took them out into an unheated tank they havnt been the same at all
One still let’s me pet it occasionally but that’s usually it
You could, but it would probably be very stressful for the koi.
As you know, koi are cold water fish. That saves me from having to explain the difference between the temp. requirements for cold water fish and tropical fish. They could probably survive in tropical temps, but it would add unnecessary stress to the koi and make them more succeptable to disease.
That being said, koi tend to do much better being raised in ponds than in tanks, and pond raised koi often reach a larger adult size.
Good luck with whatever you decide
